Wales Netball Captain Bethan Dyke Proud to Carry Cardiff Met Connection into Glasgow

Bethan Dyke says the Commonwealth Games is “starting to feel real” after joining her Wales netball teammates at Team Wales Kitting Out ahead of Glasgow 2026.

The Wales netball captain and Cardiff Met alumna was among the athletes at the ICC in Newport as Team Wales continued preparations for this summer’s Games. For Dyke, the day brought the squad together with staff, athletes from other sports and the wider Team Wales environment, marking another important step towards Glasgow.

“Today it is starting to feel real,” said Dyke. “The squad all coming together, being able to meet lots of the staff from Team Wales as well, it’s really special and important to be here.”

Wales’ netballers are already deep into their preparations for the Games, with a quick turnaround from the domestic season into national camp. Dyke said the squad have been putting in important work across recent weekends, combining training with valuable match play opportunities as they build towards the start of the competition.

“I think it’s just really important to live in every moment,” she said. “The time has come around so quickly. We’ve just come off our domestic season and we’re straight into camp. We’ve been working really hard and we’ve been in camp Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and had some really valuable match play opportunities in the lead up to the Games. We’ve still got a bit of time to go, but we’re really excited now to get to Glasgow.”

For Dyke, Glasgow 2026 will also carry the added honour of leading Wales as captain on the Commonwealth Games stage. Having built a long international career with the Welsh Feathers, she said the responsibility remains one she never takes for granted.

“It’s a massive honour to be named as captain,” she said. “Not just to have the belief of the players, but the staff as well. I never take this opportunity for granted, so to be able to go out there and lead the team is extremely special, not only to me, but for my family as well.”

Dyke also reflected warmly on her time at Cardiff Met, where she shared the court with fellow Wales internationals Georgia Rowe and Philippa Yarranton. With Suzy Rattenberry-Drane also present at Kitting Out in her Team Wales role, Dyke said the Cardiff Met connection continues to feel special.

“I absolutely loved my time at Cardiff Met,” she said. “Georgia and Philippa as well, being able to play with them at Cardiff Met was really special, but also seeing Suzy Drane here today as well, I think just being a former Archer is really special.”

As Team Wales prepares for Glasgow, Dyke’s journey from Cardiff Met to Wales captain is another reminder of the University’s continued influence across Welsh netball. For the Archers community, her leadership on the Commonwealth Games stage will be a proud moment to follow.
