School Sport Survey achieves reporting threshold for the first time in eight years

We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the latest School Sport Survey, with an incredible 9,249 pupil responses received from across the local authority.

Most significantly, this is the first time in eight years that the survey has achieved the minimum response threshold required to produce a local authority report, ensuring that the voices of thousands of young people can help shape the future of sport and physical activity.

The survey generated 9,249 pupil responses, exceeding our target by more than 800 young people. Alongside valuable feedback from teachers and schools, the results provide a rich insight into the experiences, motivations and perceptions of children and young people across the region.

Each response represents a young person's voice and perspective, helping us build a clearer understanding of how sport and physical activity are experienced in schools and communities.

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

Reaching this milestone has required months of planning, collaboration and adaptability.

Throughout the survey window, we encountered a range of challenges that demanded resilience, problem-solving and a willingness to adjust our approach when needed. Despite these obstacles, the commitment shown by schools, partners and colleagues never wavered.

That collective effort has resulted in a significant achievement, not only surpassing our participation target but also reaching the reporting threshold for the first time since 2018.

Working Alongside Schools

A particular highlight of this year's survey was the opportunity to spend time in schools, supporting staff and pupils to engage with the process.

These visits provided valuable opportunities to discuss the importance of the survey, answer questions and help ensure young people's experiences were represented. Just as importantly, they strengthened relationships with schools and reinforced the value of listening directly to children and young people.

Most importantly, they will ensure that young people's voices remain at the heart of future planning and development.
