Cardiff Met face a testing trip to Brecon as they look to respond to defeat and maintain their strong start to 2026. Met will be determined to secure a crucial win.
Brecon are a club built on tradition and proud moments. Before we focus on the challenge ahead, it is worth reflecting on the history that shaped them.
A brief guide to their history
Based in mid Wales, Brecon RFC has a legacy dating back to 1874. Back in 1881, it stood among the 11 founding clubs that gathered at the Castle Hotel to establish the Welsh Rugby Union. That moment cemented its place in Welsh rugby history. Many players have walked through its clubhouse doors chasing a place in the side. Before reaching the international stage, Andy Powell built the foundations of his game at Brecon. Former England international Dewi Morris also spent his early rugby life at the club. Both players went on to earn international caps and toured with the British & Irish Lions, beginning their journeys at Brecon.
In April 2019, Brecon made the trip to the Welsh capital to take on Boneymaen. Ewan Williams put in a strong display to help his side lift the plate. That is just a snapshot of a storied past. Now, in 2026, they continue that legacy in the Welsh Premiership. That proud history forms the backdrop to the team they are now.
Brecon today
Brecon are 12 games into the season and searching for momentum. The team have seven league points to their name and have amassed 197 points throughout the campaign. Recent weeks have been tough, a testing stretch. Defeats to Neath, Bargoed and Beddau have stalled progress and tested belief. Scorelines of 31–21, 55–7 and 45–20 highlight the need to get back to winning ways. A club with an abundance of heart, their resilience will be on full display as they look to notch some big results. Saturday offers the chance to reset their season. It sets the stage for an interesting clash with Cardiff Met.
Cardiff Met
Met will hit the road to take on Brecon. The side are eighth in the table with five wins and 30 points. With 322 points on the board, the numbers suggest a side hovering in the middle ground. Yet beneath the surface lies an attacking spark capable of lighting up the scoreboard at any moment. Cardiff Met have recorded wins over Ystrad Rhondda and Newbridge, but suffered a defeat at the hands of Merthyr. Last time the two teams faced each other, it was Cardiff Met who were victorious. Met should feel confident of getting a result on the road after building momentum in the new year, but it will not be easy.
As the season moves towards its business end, every result matters and it could come down to who wants it more. Saturday afternoon promises a contest defined by heart and ferocity, with a relentless pursuit of victory.
