Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus will welcome coaches from across the basketball community this summer as the first Cardiff International Coaches Clinic takes place at Archers Arena on Saturday 4 July 2026. Buy Your Ticket
The event, led by Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Coach and Wales U15 Women’s Head Coach Pentxo Cervantes, has been designed to give coaches practical, on-court learning from experienced international coaches working across professional, national team and player development environments.

Running from 10:00am to 8:15pm, the clinic will feature four specialist coaching sessions covering defensive identity, skill transfer, youth offence and pick-and-roll defence. The programme has been built around live, practical delivery, giving attendees ideas, drills and concepts they can take straight back into their own coaching environments.
Pentxo Cervantes said: “This is a project I've been pursuing for years and I'm massively happy this is the year for the 1st edition of, hopefully, many more to come. As a coach I think it's essential to keep evolving and growing with the game and an event like this is ideal not only for learning from coaches with international experience but also to help coaches network and connect.”
The opening on-court session will be delivered by Emiliano Rey Aloe, who will lead “Building defense: From individual battles to team identity”. Rey Aloe brings experience from the UK, Sweden, Austria and Spain, with roles across youth development, senior competition and national team programmes. His coaching journey includes work with Pirlo Kufstein Towers, IK EOS Lund, Reading Rockets and the Wales U17 Women’s National Team, and he has recently been appointed Assistant Coach for Köping Stars in Sweden.
David Torrescusa will then deliver “From ability to game: Transforming skills into real situations”. With more than 15 years of professional coaching experience across five countries, including time within FC Barcelona’s academy, Torrescusa will focus on helping coaches connect technical development with real game decision-making.
After lunch, Felipe Coello will lead a session on “Early offense in youth teams”. Coello has been coaching since 1974 and has worked across youth, senior and elite professional basketball, including roles with CB Murcia, Náutico Tenerife, Balneario de Archena and CB Tenerife. His long-standing contribution to coaching education and player development brings a significant level of experience to the clinic.
The final session of the day will be delivered by Krumesh Patel, who will lead “Kill the action: Mastering PnR defense”. Patel has worked across elite club basketball and international 3x3, with experience including London Lions, Leicester Riders, Great Britain national teams, Wetterbygden Sparks and Athinaikos WBC in Greece.
The Cardiff International Coaches Clinic also reflects Cardiff Met Sport’s wider commitment to developing people, growing coaching opportunities and strengthening the sporting community across Cyncoed Campus. Through the Change the Game: 2030 Sport Strategy, Cardiff Met Sport has set out an ambition to provide an outstanding, inclusive sporting experience and to be recognised as Wales’ Sporting University, with a focus on performance, participation, people, places and profile.
Registration costs £50 per coach, with a discount available for Cardiff Met Archers coaches. Places are limited and tickets must be purchased in advance, with no option to buy on the day. The registration fee contributes towards court rental, facility costs, coach accommodation and travel expenses, and the delivery and management of the clinic.
Parking will be available on campus, with all-day parking costing £0.50 from the machines on site. Attendees are encouraged to bring notebooks, take plenty of notes and make the most of the opportunity to learn, ask questions and connect with other coaches throughout the day.
