Cardiff Met Student-Athlete Signs First Professional Contract with Glamorgan

Cardiff Metropolitan University student-athlete Romano Franco has taken a major step in his cricketing career after signing his first rookie contract with Glamorgan County Cricket Club.
The SCRaM (Sport, Coaching and Rehabilitation Management) student has agreed to a full-time, two-year rookie contract, marking a significant milestone as he transitions into the professional game. The deal was officially announced by Glamorgan on 27 January 2026.
Franco, who represents Cardiff Met – UCCE, has impressed through his performances within the university and county pathway system, earning recognition as one of the programme’s standout talents. His development highlights the continued success of the UCCE pathway in preparing student-athletes for elite-level cricket while balancing academic commitments.
Speaking through the club announcement, Glamorgan praised Franco’s progression and potential, noting his work ethic and performances as key factors behind the decision to offer him a full-time contract.
The signing reinforces Cardiff Metropolitan University’s reputation for developing high-performing student-athletes and reflects the strong partnership between the university and Glamorgan County Cricket Club.
