Cardiff Met Sport appoints Alumna Sophie Hornung to key role

Cardiff Met Sport is proud to announce the appointment of Sport Management graduate Sophie Hornung as the new Athletics Club & Competitions Coordinator.

A recent graduate of Cardiff Met’s highly regarded Sport Management programme, Hornung has already demonstrated a strong passion for sport development, athlete support, and event delivery through placements with Team Wales and project work with Welsh Athletics. Her transition into this role reflects both her academic dedication and her practical experience gained during her time studying at the university.

In her new position, Hornung will oversee the organisation and coordination of athletics club activities, as well as the planning and delivery of competitions across the university calendar. This includes supporting student-athletes, liaising with coaches, and ensuring competitions run smoothly—from grassroots participation events to high-performance meets.

Sophie's familiarity with the university’s facilities, teams, and competitive pathways is expected to provide immediate benefits to both recreational and performance athletes.

As Cardiff Met continues to build on its success in university sport and student engagement, Hornung’s appointment represents a valuable addition to the team. Her work will contribute to enhancing the student experience, strengthening club development, and supporting the next generation of athletes.

This appointment not only celebrates individual achievement but also reflects Cardiff Met’s broader mission: to develop skilled, employable graduates who go on to make a meaningful impact within the sports industry.
