Having already made Welsh football history, Cardiff Met's young Archers will take the next step in their European journey on Wednesday 28 October when they face Norwegian opposition in the first leg of their UEFA Youth League second-round tie.

The match at Nye Nadderud Stadium represents another significant occasion for Jack Lyons' side, who became the first Welsh club to progress beyond the opening round of the competition following a 4-1 aggregate victory over Luxembourg's FC UNA Strassen.

Their achievement follows a remarkable journey that began with winning the National Academi Development League South title last season, before a dramatic 96th-minute winner from Charlie Keough against Connah's Quay Nomads secured their first-ever place in the UEFA Youth League.

A memorable European debut followed at Cyncoed Stadium in September, where goals from Mitch Ford, Harrison Matthews, Caleb Finlayson and Myles McKenzie secured an emphatic 4-0 first-leg victory against UNA Strassen.

Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat in Luxembourg on 14 October, Cardiff Met progressed comfortably on aggregate, ensuring their European adventure would continue into a second round that no Welsh club had previously reached.

A new challenge in Norway

Cardiff Met now face Stabæk Fotball, who are also making their UEFA Youth League debut this season. The Norwegian club enter the competition at the second-round stage of the Domestic Champions Path, setting up an intriguing encounter between two sides experiencing European youth football for the first time.

The first leg will take place at Stabæk's Nye Nadderud Stadium on Wednesday 28 October, with kick-off at 5pm UK time, before the tie returns to Cardiff on Wednesday 4 November.

With another European challenge ahead, the Archers will be hoping to build on the confidence gained from their opening-round success while recognising that the Norwegian opposition present a fresh test.

European football returns to Cyncoed

Beyond the significance of the results, the UEFA Youth League campaign has become an important occasion for Cardiff Met FC and the wider University, bringing European football to Cyncoed and showcasing the opportunities available within its football development pathway.

The second leg against Stabæk will take place at Cyncoed Stadium on Wednesday 4 November, kicking off at 7:45pm, with Cardiff Met hoping for another memorable atmosphere under the lights.

Supporters wishing to attend can purchase tickets through Fanbase, with standard admission priced at £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £2 for under 16s.
