Cardiff Met cricket enjoys standout season across BUCS programme

Cardiff Met Cricket is celebrating a hugely successful season, with several teams either securing league titles, qualifying for national knockout stages, or remaining unbeaten heading into the final stages of the campaign.

The Women’s 1st XI have once again underlined their consistency at the top end of university cricket, qualifying for the national semi-finals for the sixth consecutive year.

While they have twice come up against a very strong University of Exeter side this season, the Archers have continued to show their quality across the campaign, recording strong results against the likes of Birmingham and Bristol. Their performances have secured another place in the latter stages of the national competition, where they will travel to face Leeds/Bradford UCCE in the semi-finals on Wednesday 3 June.

The Men’s 1st XI have also enjoyed an outstanding campaign, remaining unbeaten and securing their place as back-to-back Southern Premier League champions. Their latest title success extends an impressive run of form, with the side now 14 games unbeaten. They still have one fixture remaining against Bristol at home, but their status as league champions has already been confirmed.

There has been further success for the Men’s 2nd XI, who have also gone unbeaten this season. They have been crowned Western 1A league winners, claiming the title for the third time since 2022. Although promotion is not possible due to the Men’s 1st XI already competing in the top division, their season represents another strong statement of depth within the Cardiff Met cricket programme.

The Men’s 3rd XI are also unbeaten and remain firmly in the title race. Their final fixture against Swansea University 1st XI will decide the Western 2A title, giving the Archers another opportunity to end the season with silverware.

For the Men’s 4th XI, it has been a more challenging campaign. Competing in the same division as the Men’s 3rd XI and regularly coming up against university first teams, they have been unable to record a win this season. However, the experience gained across the squad will be valuable, with the team expected to move into a division next season where they can compete strongly.

Across the programme, the results reflect both high-level performance and impressive squad depth, with Cardiff Met teams competing strongly across multiple levels of university cricket.
