Cardiff Met Archers ready for BCB Trophy campaign
Cardiff Met Archers are preparing to begin their 2026/27 British Championship Basketball Trophy campaign, as the men’s programme takes its place in an expanded national competition featuring clubs from across the British basketball pyramid. GET YOUR TICKETS NOW
The Archers are one of five Basketball England NBL clubs invited to compete in this season’s Trophy, alongside Oaklands Wolves, Portsmouth Force, Gloucester City Kings and Plymouth Raiders. Scotland’s Signs Express Fury have also joined the field alongside the 14 British Championship Basketball clubs, creating a 20-team competition for 2026/27.
Cardiff Met have been drawn into the South I group alongside Bristol Flyers, Bristol Hurricanes, Gloucester City Kings and Plymouth Raiders, providing a demanding opening test and the opportunity for the Archers to compete against high-quality opposition from across the national game.
The competition begins with four groups of five teams, with the top two sides from each group advancing to the quarter-finals in October. The semi-finals will follow in November before the competition concludes with the BCB Trophy Final in January.
For Cardiff Met, the Trophy represents another important opportunity to strengthen the men’s performance programme and expose players to a different level and style of competition.
The Archers have continued to develop a pathway which allows players to combine their studies with high-level basketball, and competing in the BCB Trophy provides another platform for the programme to test itself nationally.
It also places Cardiff Met alongside established basketball programmes from across England, Scotland and Wales at the beginning of the new season, while giving supporters in Cardiff the chance to see new opposition at Archers Arena.
The opportunity reflects the continued growth of the Cardiff Met Archers programme and its ambition to provide players with an elite performance environment while continuing to showcase Welsh basketball on the national stage.
With the new season approaching and another national competition added to the calendar, the Archers will now turn their attention towards getting their BCB Trophy campaign underway and competing for a place in the knockout stages.
