Capital Grant opens to support sports clubs across Cardiff

Sports clubs and community groups across Cardiff are being invited to apply for the Cardiff Capital Grant 2026, a funding opportunity designed to support the development and improvement of facilities, equipment and spaces that help local communities take part in sport and physical activity with grants of up to £20,000 available.

Funded by Cardiff Council and administered by Cardiff Met Sport, the Capital Grant will support eligible clubs and community sport organisations with capital projects that can make a lasting difference to their members, participants and local areas.

The fund is aimed at projects that improve the quality, accessibility and sustainability of community sport provision across the city. This could include upgrades to changing rooms or clubhouses, improvements to accessibility, pitch developments, energy-efficient lighting, spectator areas, storage facilities, large items of equipment, or other capital investments that help clubs grow and better serve their communities.

Priority will be given to projects that contribute to one or more of the following areas:

  • Increasing participation in disadvantaged areas

  • Promoting safe and inclusive environments

  • Improving accessibility to facilities

  • Increasing sport participation and active lifestyles

  • Benefiting the wider local community

The grant reflects Cardiff Met Sport’s wider commitment to working with partners across the city to increase participation, strengthen community sport and create more inclusive opportunities for people to be active.

Eligible organisations must be based in Cardiff and provide for the people of the city. Applicants should be constituted not-for-profit clubs, charities, voluntary groups, community organisations or social enterprises, with projects that have not yet started and are focused on capital investment.

Applications will be assessed by a panel with successful clubs/organisations required to provide updates on progress and demonstrate the impact of their project once completed.

James Horwood, Physical Activity and Inclusion Coordinator at Cardiff Met Sport said:

“The Capital Grant is a valuable opportunity to support the clubs and community organisations that play such an important role in helping people across Cardiff take part in sport and physical activity. We are keen to hear from clubs with projects that can improve facilities, increase accessibility, create more inclusive environments and leave a lasting benefit for their local communities.”
