Bon Gordon claims national silver as Jowan Joyce-Richards reaches Skateboard GB final

Cardiff Met-supported skateboarders Lona ‘Bon’ Gordon and Jowan Joyce-Richards produced impressive performances at the 2026 Skateboard GB National Championships in London, with Gordon claiming second place in the Women’s Street final and Joyce-Richards finishing seventh in the Men’s Street competition.

Gordon came within just 1.53 points of the national title at BaySixty6, recording a final score of 79.67 to take silver behind champion Miriam Nelson, who topped the standings with 81.20.

It capped an impressive weekend for Gordon, who had already demonstrated her form by finishing top of her semi-final heat on Saturday with a score of 72.03. She carried that momentum into Sunday’s final, where she produced another strong performance to secure second place in a closely contested women’s competition.

The result continues an impressive 2026 for Gordon after she was crowned Women’s Street champion at the Skateboard GB Scottish Open earlier in the year.

Gordon has been working with Cardiff Met Sport’s Head of Strength and Conditioning, Dai Watts, as part of her ongoing physical development, with a particular focus on strength, power, landing control and physical robustness to support the demands of skateboarding.

There was also a strong showing from 15-year-old Jowan Joyce-Richards, who progressed through to Sunday’s Men’s Street final against some of the leading skateboarders in the country.

Joyce-Richards finished seventh in the eight-man final with a score of 65.93, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of domestic competition.

The young Welsh skateboarder has continued to make significant progress during 2026, having already won the Best Trick competition at the Skateboard GB Welsh Park & Street Open earlier this year. He is also supported through the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), accessing performance support at Cardiff Met as he continues his development within the sport.

The results represent another positive weekend for the two Cardiff Met-supported athletes and further demonstrate the growing role of specialist strength and conditioning support within skateboarding.

For Gordon, a national silver adds another major result to an already successful year, while Joyce-Richards’ appearance in a senior National Championship final provides another important milestone in his progression.

Both athletes will now look to build on their performances as they continue their development within British skateboarding.
