April Is Awards Season: Always a Massive Month for Met Tv

At the recent National Student TV Awards (known as the NASTAs) Cardiff Met Sport TV was recognised as one of the best student-run sports channels in the country.

The Met TV platform picked up 4 separate prizes. GOLD in "Event Coverage" for their marathon 9 hour Varsity 2025 broadcast, GOLD in "Post Production” for Devin Pote and his "Through The Lens” cinematic recap of the Cardiff Clash, SILVER in the "Best Sport" category for their weekly Bucs Super Rugby Coverage and BRONZE in the "Best Documentary" category for "Our Legacy", which was also produced by Pote alongside fellow student Ellie Place and follows the Cardiff Met Women’s Rugby team, the 2025 Champions, as they looked to defend their BUCS Super Rugby title. 


The event was held at Loughborough University, the perfect opportunity to showcase the sporting and broadcasting talent of Wales’ leading sports university. 

Internally, Cardiff Met Sport TV also picked up the prize for Best Collaborative Project at the Cardiff Met Entrepreneurial Awards for their coverage of the Welsh Gymnastics Championship. The students produced a 4 day broadcast of the Men’s and Women’s WelshArtistic Gymnastic, live from the Sport Wales National Centre in Sophia Gardens.

The two biggest awards ceremonies are still to come. On Friday April 17th it’s the prestigious RTS Cymru Awards, a star-studded gala event held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Cardiff Met students will be rubbing shoulders with actors from Doctor Who, Gavin and Stacey, reporters from Wales Today and presenters from the Six Nations and Women’s Rugby World Cup. 


Cardiff Met Sport TV has two nominations in the student awards, Will Shepherd’s documentary about homophobia in British Ice Hockey and Georgie Haines documentary about an ITF Takwondo World Champion balancing life as a world class ahtlete and Cardiff Met student studying an MSc in Sports Rehabilitation.


Both films have been shortlisted in the “Best Post-Graduate Documentary” category. You can watch both documentaries here:

At the end of the month Cardiff Met Sport TV travel to the Sport Industry Group Awards in London where they have been nominated in the Education category up against the likes of Loughborough and Nottingham Trent. Exciting times for the channel which will be ten years old in 2027.
