Nine current and former Cardiff Met players have been named in the Wales Women’s Rugby World Cup squad, underlining the University’s proud reputation for producing world-class rugby talent.
The squad announcement sees a strong Cardiff Met presence, with alumni Carys Phillips, Carys Cox (former Cardiff Met captain), Catherine Richards, Jazmine Joyce-Butchers, and Lleucu George all securing their places. They are joined by current student Maisie Davies, recent graduate Molly Reardon, and Cardiff Met PDC East players Seren Lockwood and Tilly Vucaj.
The selection highlights the role Cardiff Met University’s Performance Rugby programmes play in developing elite athletes, providing a pathway from student rugby to the international stage.
Lisa Newton, Women’s Rugby Head Coach at Cardiff Met, said: “We’re incredibly proud to see nine Cardiff Met representatives selected for the Rugby World Cup. It’s a fantastic achievement for each player and a testament to their commitment, resilience and talent. It also reflects the strength of our rugby pathways here at Cardiff Met, from our Performance Rugby programme through to our PDC East setup. We can’t wait to watch them represent Wales on the biggest stage.”
The Wales Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign will kick off vs Scotland on August 23rd in Salford, England.
