Elinor Snowsill’s PDC East impact celebrated after Wales U18 success

Cardiff Met is proud to celebrate the outstanding contribution of Elinor Snowsill, whose leadership as WRU Player Development Centre East Lead and coaching role with Wales Women U18s are continuing to make a real impact on the future of the women’s game in Wales.

Her work across the Player Development Centre pathway and on the international stage reflects the strength of the programme, the commitment of the staff around her, and the exciting talent coming through from East Wales.

Snowsill has played a central role in developing players through the WRU Player Development Centre East at Cardiff Met, a programme designed to support high-potential female players and provide a high-performance environment for emerging talent. The centre is one of three across Wales, giving players a clear route towards elite rugby while supporting their wider development.

That pathway was especially evident in the Wales Women U18 setup, where Snowsill was also part of the coaching group for the Six Nations Festival at Wellington College. Wales produced a memorable campaign, including an impressive win over England, underlining the quality, resilience and potential within the squad.

A major point of pride for Cardiff Met was the strength of the East Wales contribution to that group. Of the players selected, 17 came through the PDC East pathway, a powerful reflection of the work taking place across the programme and the talent continuing to develop in the region.

Reflecting on the Six Nations Festival, Snowsill said:

“It was a privilege to be a part of the coaching staff for Wales U18 at this year’s U18 Six Nations Festival based at Wellington College. I am very proud of the 17 players selected from East Wales to represent their country and who all played a part in one of the most successful campaigns Wales have had at this level, recording wins against England, Scotland and Italy to finish 2nd in the overall ‘unofficial’ table!“I’d like to give a special mention to Amelia Bailey who captained Wales and set the standards, and Lily Hawkins who supported her exceptionally as Vice-Captain. The icing on the cake was having 4 players nominated for team of the tournament: Taufa Tuipulotu at hooker, Amelia Bailey in the back row, Lily Hawkins at scrum half and Sienna McCormack at fly half. The future is very bright!”

From a university perspective, what is particularly exciting is that 14 of those players are now set to join Cardiff Met next year, strengthening the link between the PDC pathway and the next stage of their development. It is a significant boost for the women’s rugby programme and a clear sign of the university’s growing reputation as a home for talented female players.

The success is also a reflection of the wider team supporting Snowsill and the players throughout the pathway. From coaches and support staff to those working behind the scenes across development, analysis and player welfare, the programme is built on collaboration, and that collective effort is clear in the progress of the athletes coming through it.
