A Cardiff Met Sport-led collaboration has been recognised with the School Swimming and Water Safety Impact Award, celebrating outstanding contributions to school swimming and water safety across Wales.

The award recognises the impact of Nofio Ysgol Caerdydd, a programme driven by Cardiff Met Sport in partnership with schools, leisure providers and local authorities.

Since its introduction, the Cardiff School Swimming Charter has increased school participation in swimming from 57% in 2022/23 to 85% in 2024/25, removing long-standing barriers around access, transport and cost.

Ryan David, Aquatics Development Manager at Cardiff Met Sport, said:

“I’m pleased that the Nofio Ysgol Caerdydd Collaboration Group has been recognised for its work in strengthening school swimming over the past year. Swimming and water safety is a right, not a privilege, and too many children miss out when they cannot access lessons. This milestone gives us a stronger platform to keep building so that every child in Cardiff can swim and stay safe in and around water.”

The programme continues to develop, with new transport pilots launching in 2026 to further reduce costs for schools and move closer to full participation across Cardiff.
