Cardiff Metropolitan University is proud to celebrate the selection and recognition of a number of athletes connected to Cardiff Met Sport who are progressing onto the international stage ahead of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Among those recognised by Team GB is Adele Nicoll, a former Cardiff Met student, staff member and coach, who has been named as one of ten athletes to watch ahead of the Games. A national shot put champion, Adele transitioned into bobsleigh in 2020 and supported Team GB at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. She is now set to compete as a bobsleigh pilot and monobob athlete at Milano Cortina 2026. Adele studied Sport and Exercise Science at Cardiff Met, where she also enjoyed outstanding success in university sport, winning seven BUCS gold medals during her time at the University.
Leon Greenwood, a Cardiff Met Sport graduate, has also been selected to represent Team GB. Leon studied Sport and Physical Education between 2015 and 2018 and competed across multiple sports during his time at the University, playing BUCS basketball with Cardiff Archers and representing Cardiff Met Athletics. His selection highlights the impact of Cardiff Met Sport’s performance pathways and multi-sport opportunities in supporting athlete development.
Also representing the strength of Cardiff Met’s sporting environment is Mica Moore OLY, a Cardiff Met graduate who has been selected to represent Jamaica in bobsleigh. Mica previously competed as a sprinter for Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and represented Team GB at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She completed both a BSc in Education and Sport and an MSc in Sport Broadcasting at Cardiff Met and continues to train at the National Indoor Athletics Centre on the University’s Cyncoed campus.
Completing the group is Kya Placide, a hosted athlete at Cardiff Met, who has been selected as an Alternate Athlete within the Team GB Olympic pathway. Kya’s inclusion reflects Cardiff Met Sport’s commitment to supporting athletes at all stages of their performance journey, providing access to high-quality facilities, coaching support and applied sport science services.
Together, these selections underline Cardiff Met Sport’s reputation for delivering high-performance environments, dual-career support, and athlete-centred pathways that enable individuals to succeed in sport alongside education.
Cardiff Met Sport wishes Adele, Leon, Mica, Kya and all those selected every success as they prepare for upcoming Olympic preparations and the games.
