Three current members of Cardiff Met WRFCSaran Jones, Amy Williams and Gabby Healan, were selected for the Great Britain Women’s Sevens squad, competing against some of the best teams in the world on the HSBC SVNS circuit.

The Vancouver tournament is one of the flagship events on the global sevens calendar, attracting top international teams and thousands of fans to BC Place for a weekend of high-intensity rugby. The next event in the series heads to New York, USA and we can't wait to see if any other Cardiff Met students will be involved and competing.

Alongside the women’s competition, Cardiff Met alumnus Henry Kirwan featured for Canada’s Men’s Sevens team during the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge, a tournament played during the Vancouver Sevens weekend.

Kirwan was part of the Canadian squad competing against Japan and Chile, with the hosts finishing the tournament with a 3–1 record to claim the Challenge title in front of a home crowd at BC Place.

The competition formed part of Canada’s preparations for the upcoming HSBC SVNS 2 events in Montevideo and São Paulo, as they continue their push to return to the top tier of the global sevens series.

The international selections highlight the continued strength of the Cardiff Met Rugby programme, with current players and alumni regularly representing their nations across both the fifteens and sevens formats of the game.
