Azu Runs Third Fastest 60m in British History

Former Cardiff Met student and hosted athlete Jeremiah Azu has continued his outstanding indoor season by running the third fastest 60m time in British athletics history.

Competing at the ISTAF Indoor meeting in Berlin, Azu clocked a personal best of 6.47 seconds, placing him equal third on the British all-time list.

The Welsh sprinter, who is the reigning World Indoor Champion over 60 metres, delivered the impressive performance just weeks before he attempts to defend his global title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland (20–22 March).

Azu’s Berlin performance continues a remarkable run of form this season. At the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham in February, he secured a national sprint double, winning both the 60m and 200m titles.

The success adds to a growing list of achievements for the Cardiff-based athlete, who also claimed Olympic bronze in the 4x100m relay at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Azu has also recently been selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana, where he is expected to feature in the men’s 4x100m relay team.

During his time in Cardiff, Azu studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University and trained within the University’s high-performance athletics environment, developing into one of Britain’s leading sprint athletes.

With the World Indoor Championships approaching, Azu’s latest performance signals strong form as he prepares to return to the global stage and defend his world title later this month.
