Girls’ basketball takes centre stage at Archers Arena

The next generation of girls’ basketball was celebrated at Archers Arena as the annual all-girls festival returned for another inspiring day of sport, development and connection.

Delivered in collaboration with Basketball Wales through the Her World, Her Rules initiative, the event welcomed more than 100 girls for a packed programme of on-court activity, workshops and development opportunities.

The day was led by the fabulous Elen Morris-Mullins, Basketball Coordinator at Cardiff Met Sport, with support from Cardiff Met’s performance players and the wider performance services team, helping to create a positive and empowering environment for everyone involved.

Participants began the festival with a fun and engaging tournament, giving them the chance to showcase their skills, enjoy match play and build confidence alongside other young players.

The afternoon programme focused on development away from the court, with participants taking part in a strength and conditioning session led by Dai Watts, as well as a female athlete workshop delivered by Katie Payne.

The girls also returned to the court for two skills sessions led by Basketball Wales coach Neva Hughes and Cardiff Archers’ Cami Barone, offering valuable insight and hands-on learning from experienced coaches and players.

The festival continues to play an important role in inspiring more girls to get involved in basketball, while helping to build confidence, skills and a strong sense of community within the game.

With more than 100 girls in attendance, the event highlighted the growing enthusiasm for girls’ basketball and the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation.
