School Sport Survey Update: First Prize Winners Announced

Following our recent update on progress towards a Cardiff Local Authority School Sport Survey report, we are pleased to share further positive developments, with more schools completing the survey and prize winners now being announced.

The continued engagement from schools across Cardiff is helping to strengthen the overall dataset, ensuring the city moves closer to producing a robust and representative Local Authority report on young people’s experiences of sport and physical activity.

First Schools to Complete

We would like to congratulate all schools who have completed their School Sport Survey so far. Your contribution is vital in helping to build an accurate picture of participation, wellbeing and opportunities across Cardiff.

A special mention goes to Christ the King Primary School and Willows High School, who were the first schools in Cardiff to fully complete the survey. Their proactive approach has set the standard and demonstrated real commitment to supporting pupil voice in sport.

Prize Draw Winners

As part of the incentive programme linked to the survey, we are delighted to confirm the following winners:

Hywel Dda – First prize draw winner

St Illtyd’s High School – Second prize draw winner

In addition, both Christ the King Primary School and Willows High School have also been recognised for their early completion.

All four schools have each received a £250 sports equipment voucher to enhance their provision for pupils.

Further prize draws will continue throughout the survey period, with more opportunities for schools to benefit from additional funding.

Why the Survey Is Important

The School Sport Survey provides a valuable opportunity for schools to hear directly from pupils about their experiences of sport and physical activity. It explores:

* What activities young people currently take part in

* What they enjoy most and would like to do more of

* How sport and physical activity impacts their wellbeing

* The opportunities and facilities available within schools and the community )

This information allows schools to better tailor their provision, strengthen curriculum planning, and create more inclusive and engaging opportunities for all pupils.

The insights gathered also contribute to wider decision-making across Wales, supporting Sport Wales and partners in identifying gaps, targeting investment, and improving access to sport for young people.

Next Steps for Cardiff

As highlighted in our previous update, reaching the required thresholds for a Cardiff Local Authority report remains a key priority. Continued participation will ensure the data is representative and can be used to drive meaningful change and future investment across the city.

Every completed survey not only strengthens the overall dataset but also brings schools closer to additional support, resources and opportunities following the survey.
