Badminton athlete Harper Leigh has been crowned Welsh Senior National Champion, securing his first senior national title at the Welsh Senior Nationals on 1 February 2026.
Leigh, who competes in full-time badminton and is supported through the TASS programme in partnership with Badminton Wales, has been training in strength and conditioning at Cardiff Metropolitan University since December 2023. His preparation has been overseen by Dai Watts, with Leigh consistently demonstrating dedication, commitment, and a strong work ethic as he pursues success at the highest level.

The national title marks a significant milestone in Leigh’s career and reflects his long-term commitment to high-performance training. Known for his willingness to travel extensively in pursuit of development opportunities, Leigh’s victory represents the culmination of sustained effort both on and off the court.
Speaking after his championship success, Leigh said:
“I am very proud to win my first Senior National Title and I hope I can build on this result.”
Watts praised Leigh’s approach to training, highlighting his consistency and determination since joining the programme. The achievement further reinforces Cardiff Met’s role in supporting elite athletes through evidence-based strength and conditioning provision alongside national governing bodies.
With his first senior national crown now secured, Leigh will look to build momentum as he targets further success on the domestic stage and beyond.
