Cardiff Metropolitan University student Josef Dilks is putting his passion for cricket into practice, combining his studies in Sport Performance Analysis with experience at Glamorgan County Cricket Club and a leading role in developing performance analysis at Cardiff Met Cricket.

Currently studying Level 6 Sport Performance Analysis at Cardiff Met, Josef has been building his expertise in video analysis, specialist software and the use of data to support sporting performance, while gaining valuable hands-on experience across both university and professional cricket.

His journey began with Cardiff Met Hockey, where he worked as an Assistant Analyst before progressing to his current position as Head of Analysis for Cardiff Met Cricket. In this role, Josef oversees analysis provision across the men's and women's performance teams, while also working with Level 5 students.

Working closely with Gethin Smart, Head of Cricket at Cardiff Met, Josef has helped introduce Fulltrack AI into the club's performance analysis provision, bringing new technology into training sessions and indoor matches.

The introduction of the technology has enabled Cardiff Met Cricket to develop a more consistent approach to performance analysis across its squads, supporting coaches and players through greater access to video and performance data.

"We took the initiative to select Fulltrack AI as a tool to support our performance analysis provision, and have since embraced its use across all aspects of the club, from training sessions to indoor games," Josef explained.

Alongside his work at Cardiff Met, Josef spent the summer of 2026 gaining professional experience as a Performance Analysis Intern with Glamorgan County Cricket Club.

During his internship, he supported a range of programmes, including the boys' and girls' academies, the women's team and the men's team. His responsibilities included attending matches, live coding and producing post-match analysis using PCS Pro, working across different formats of cricket, from T20 fixtures to three-day matches.

The experience provided an opportunity to apply his university learning in a professional sporting environment, working alongside coaches and players to provide technical and tactical insights.

"This gave me valuable experience working in a professional cricket environment and the opportunity to develop my analytical skills while supporting coaches and players with technical and tactical insights," Josef said.

For Josef, who has played cricket from a young age, the opportunity to combine his academic studies with practical experience in a sport he loves has been particularly rewarding.

"Having played cricket from a young age, it's been particularly rewarding to combine my passion for the sport with my studies and gain experience in performance analysis at both university and professional levels."

Josef's journey highlights the opportunities available for Cardiff Met students to develop their professional skills while contributing to sporting performance. From supporting university teams to gaining experience within the professional game, his work demonstrates how academic learning and practical experience can go hand in hand.

Through his ongoing role with Cardiff Met Cricket, Josef continues to develop his expertise while helping bring performance analysis technology into the university's sporting environment.
