Cardiff Met partnership helps 50 local children access football tournament

Updated: May 11

On April 23rd, Cardiff Met Football Academy and the Physical Activity & Inclusion team collaborated to deliver a primary school football tournament for 50 children in local schools.

The event, held at Cardiff University’s Field Facility, was wonderfully coordinated by Lilia Blood (Physical Activity and Inclusion Coordinator for Llanrumney and surrounding areas) and two of Cardiff Met Football Academy’s coaches, Jack and Elliot.

The tournament forms a wider part of Cardiff Met Sport’s PA&I team’s project designed to improve access to football and reduce barriers that prevent young people from taking part in physical activity. For the pupils, it was a chance to proudly represent their school, compete with others in the area, and enjoy a day filled with teamwork, energy, and friendly rivalry.

Conversations with participants made it clear how much they valued the experience, with many speaking about the excitement of playing new teams and having fun (and of course, missing some school lessons!).

A huge thank you goes to Jack and Elliot for delivering such a fantastic day for the schools.
