Cardiff Met athletes impress at BUCS Outdoor Championships

Cardiff Met athletes produced a strong series of performances at the BUCS Athletics Outdoor Championships, with medals, personal bests and final appearances across a busy weekend of competition in Cardiff.

The 2025-26 championships took place at Cardiff International Sports Campus, bringing university athletes from across the UK to the capital for one of the major events in the BUCS calendar.
Among the medal performances for Cardiff Met, Will Bishop defended his title from the last 2 years with gold in the ambulant long jump with a jump of 4.50m, while Mia Lloyd secured bronze in the ambulant discus with a throw of 16.21m.
On the track, Jess Mantle delivered one of Cardiff Met’s headline performances of the championships, storming to silver in the women’s 100m final. Mantle crossed the line in 11.82 to secure a superb podium finish against a high-quality BUCS field.
Beyond the medals, Cardiff Met athletes also delivered a number of impressive performances across the championships. Bethan Holley recorded a personal best in the triple jump, while Patrick Morgan produced PB's in both the shot put and pole vault.
Toks Akanbi Mortimer also added to Cardiff Met’s strong weekend on the track, dropping a big personal best to qualify for the final of the 110m hurdles in which he went on to finish sixth.
There were further strong Cardiff Met performances across the programme, including a fourth place finish for Peter Krunity-Salako clearing 2.03m in the men’s high jump, and Mimi Davis and Jodie Dale finishing fourth and seventh in the women’s javelin, throwing 44.50m & 41.90m respectively.
Undoubtedly the highlight of any BUCS Championships, the relays, delivered another two silver medals for the Cardiff Met team in the Women's 4x100m & Men's 4x400m which rounded off a positive championships for Cardiff Met on home soil.
