Cardiff Archers Athletics Club delivered a superb team performance at the recent Welsh Age Group Championships in Deeside, finishing second in the overall medal table after a weekend packed with outstanding performances, personal bests, and championship success and a total medal haul of 37 medals.

Competing against the very best young athletes from across Wales, Cardiff Archers once again demonstrated the strength and depth of the club’s thriving junior programme. Athletes across multiple age groups stepped up on the championship stage, producing a remarkable collection of medals and finalists that underlined the club’s growing reputation as one of the leading athletics clubs in Wales.
The achievement continues what has already been a hugely successful season for the club. Earlier this year, Cardiff Archers topped the medal standings at the Welsh Indoor Athletics Championships, collecting an incredible 61 medals across all age groups.
Among the standout performers during the indoor season were athletes such as Nell Desir, Aliyah Afolabi, Luca Phillips, Cobie Phillips, and Jonathan Mellor, all of whom produced national-level performances and championship medals. Most recently in Deeside, Ruby Aherne secured both the U14 Javelin and Discus titles and also claimed a silver medal in the Shot Put. Their successes has helped build momentum throughout the year and reflect the exceptional standard of coaching and athlete development within the club.
Finishing second in the medal table is a testament not only to the athletes themselves, but also to the dedication of the club’s coaching team, volunteers, officials, and families who provide unwavering support throughout the season. The championships showcased the strong culture that exists within Cardiff
Archers — one built on hard work, ambition, and a genuine passion for athletics.
The club can also take great pride in the breadth of its success. From sprinting and middle distance to jumps, throws, and hurdles, Cardiff Archers athletes featured prominently across the programme, highlighting the depth of talent currently progressing through the club’s pathway.
As the outdoor season continues, the performances in Deeside will provide enormous confidence for the months ahead. With athletes continuing to achieve personal bests, Welsh titles, and national standards, Cardiff Archers look well placed for even more success later this summer.
Congratulations go to every athlete who competed, along with the coaches, team managers, parents, and supporters who played a part in another memorable championship weekend for Cardiff Archers Athletics Club.
