Archers celebrate Home Nations Cup success as Wales U14s crowned champions

Cardiff Met Archers were strongly represented across the Wales squads at the inaugural British Wheelchair Basketball Home Nations competition, with players involved at U14, U18 and Senior level during a successful weekend at the University of Nottingham.

The standout result came in the U14 competition, where Lloyd Stonehouse, Romeo Hadley, Immy Nicolai, Joseph Parker and Miller Harris helped Wales claim the championship title. Wales produced an excellent series of performances across the weekend to finish ahead of Scotland, with England South taking third place. The competition featured several close finishes and buzzer beaters before Wales emerged as U14 champions.

Archers represented across the pathway

Cardiff Met representation continued into the U18 competition, with Cerys Stonehouse and Amelie Hamilton-Frisby representing Wales. The Welsh side secured a place on the podium, defeating England Central in the third-place play-off to claim U18 bronze. Scotland ultimately took the U18 title after going unbeaten throughout the competition.

There was also a significant Archers presence within the Wales Senior squad, with Will Bishop, Dan May, Ben Johnson-Rolfe, Gwynne Walker, Corey Cox, Libi Philips, Omer Hagome, Ollie Griffiths-Salter and Chloe Morgan all involved. Wales competed against England, Scotland and Northern Ireland at Senior level, with Northern Ireland edging Wales in the bronze-medal play-off. England U25 took the Senior title, while Scotland retained the Celtic Cup as the highest-placed Celtic nation.

A new Home Nations competition

The 2026 event was the first edition of British Wheelchair Basketball’s new Home Nations competition, bringing together age-group and senior competition across one weekend. Held across three courts at the University of Nottingham on 8 and 9 August, the event featured U14, U18 and Senior competitions, creating competitive and development opportunities across the wheelchair basketball pathway.

For Cardiff Met Archers, the weekend highlighted the club’s strong representation throughout the Welsh pathway, from young players experiencing Home Nations competition through to established Senior internationals.
